Creepy geological news from Yellowstone...
Jan. 9th, 2004 01:42 pmGeologists speculate that Yellowstone Park may soon (and not just in geological terms) be the site of a gigantic volcanic eruption. Possible effects including the deaths of "everything living within a 600 mile radius". Apparently the volcano's ~40,000 years overdue, and there's a lot of suspicious geological activity going on.
Color me creeped out.

Date: 2004-01-10 01:24 am (UTC)If I recall, they said that Yellowstone had an eruption cycle much shorter than 600 million years, and they cited mitochondrial DNA evidence that there were about 10 common 'foremothers' for the human race converging around the time of the last eruption of Yellowstone.
There are also three or four other supervolcanoes that are in the 'almost ready to go off' stage throughout the world.
So. I'd look around for additional information.
