New Year's Morning After
Well, what I saw of the New Year's Eve coverage last night was okay. I tuned in for the ball drop, stayed on for a few songs by Hall & Oates and others. The amusing bit was watching them go back to Dick Clark at Times Square ever so often so Dick could say "Nothing's happening here; everyone's gone home and the sanitation staff are cleaning up the zillion tons of confetti we dropped along with the ball. Oh, by the way, I'd like to thank my cameramen..." They switched back to the man every fifteen minutes for this revelation to be repeated anew.
The closest thing to a New Year's Resolution I'm making is to write "2004" in my checkbook on all the remaining checks there (which I've already done). I can think of a whole lot of things I'd like to do, but it seems like calling them New Year's Resolutions would be the kiss of death, as then I'd feel like I'd "have" to do them and then I'd go out of my way not to do them because nobody likes being forced into anything.
Not sure how I'm going to spend my New Year's Day. Watch movies and do last-minute cleanup, I guess. Kind of a funny excuse for a holiday, really...the end of one arbitrary period of time and the start of another. I'm never entirely sure what I'm supposed to be celebrating. At least with Christmas or my birthday or one of the presidential or military holidays I have some idea.
