Tuesday report
Dec. 30th, 2003 09:42 pmWell, I've been cleaning up my guest room, getting ready for the imminent visit this weekend of my friend
tbutler. I ended up throwing about half a dozen large boxes that had contained various Christmas gifts or earlier acquisitions. It's funny...it's kind of hard to beat down that packrat instinct, the one that says, "But you might need to move sometime and wouldn't it be nice to have boxes to move those things in?" I've managed it somehow, and vacuumed with the bright yellow Christmas gift vacuum, so now the room actually does look like someone could live in it. (As long as they don't look in the closet.)
Work has been going okay...a bit slow, probably due to the season, but I've had plenty of time to snatch bits of reading here and there. I finished one Mercedes Lackey book (The Lark and the Wren) and started another (The Black Swan). Checked out a bunch more of her from the library, but once I actually had the chance to read the blurb I found they were all from later in the Valdemar meta-series, and I really should start reading those from the beginning. And I need to see if I can find the rest of the Bardic Voices somewhere...
Last night I found an interesting program, DVD Profiler. It's a free (or register for additional features) database program for Windows for keeping track of your DVD collection: you enter the discs into it by entering the bar code or reading the ID off the disc. I actually found it while looking for drivers for my CueCat bar code scanner, but couldn't get the CueCat to work so just typed in all the UPCs to create my database. I have about 111 DVD sets, counting things like the Dr. Who Movie box set, the Man With No Name box set, and the Serial Experiments Lain box set, the Lord of the Rings Extendeds, and all the other 2- or 3-disc sets as one set each, and those are just the ones I haven't got loaned out at the moment. Wish I'd known about it a long time ago, so I could have been entering disc dates and prices of acquisition all this time.
I found that I'm going to be off on Thursday after all—but not Friday, alas. Oh well. I might be able to get off early to meet Travis, but if not, 8 still isn't bad compared to what it used to be.
Well, more cleaning up to do. Might as well get back to it.
