Well, apparently we got 'im. I hardly expect to be the first livejournaller to point it out or to comment on it: we finally got Saddam, after a long and arduous search. I guess all those people playing the "get Saddam" Starcraft maps can stop now.

I can almost feel sorry for the man, knowing the media circus that's going to surround him now. Do we try him ourselves, do we hand him over to Iraq, what do we do with him? But thinking back to all the things he did over the course of his reign, well...he made his own bed of nails, now let him lie on it.

Wonder what this is going to do to the anti-war and anti-anti-war (you can't really say "pro-war" since the actual "war" is over) movements? Provide a new focal point, I guess.

What to do now?

Well, we're still looking for Bin Ladin. But this is a pretty nice thing to find out, isn't it?

Yes, the war is over, this is just a 'police action' like the one in southeast asia before you were born.

Those last four words being adequate explanation of why it's being allowed. The American people have somehow forgotten that the president must not be allowed to wage war at his whim for political or personal gain.

Meanwhile, as for his 'making his own bed of nails' ... many of the same people, notably Rumsfeld, who are so dedicated to the elimination of the man and his government, were the ones who funded and set him up in the first place. One big difference in my mind between Saddam and Fidel, as pawns who turned out to be using their US connection to their own personal advantage to set up dictatorships: Fidel had the Russians to keep out the US business interests who wanted to go in and kick him out once he was no longer convenient.
