Got the Phone

Well, I got the new GSM cellphone. And true to a comment I got a while back, I found that the service map indicates it's not gonna be useful many places outside of metropolitan areas around here. Well, on the bright side, 99% of the time I'm not outside of those metropolitan areas. And perhaps eventually I'll get a dual-mode phone that will work in TDMA areas too.

Anyway, if you want to send me text messages to help me try out the new phone thing, you can use Livejournal's built-in text message thingie to send me one. Include a phone number of a mobile device if you have one and maybe I'll text message back.

I queried the saleslady about this issue (thinking that I might eventually get a dual-mode phone via eBay or somewhere cheaper than buying it out of the store), and she said that all I'd need to do to go dual-mode would be to get an "unlocked" SIM-compatible phone and then move my SIM card over to it, then call in and tell them I needed to be on a dual-band plan. No matter what the brand was or anything.

I wonder how one volunteers to host a cell phone antenna on one's property? My parents' farm is right at the edge of their coverage area, and on top of a ridge, too, so it'd have a pretty good broadcast range. I understand that phone antenna hosting pays a lot of money.
