Oct. 31st, 2003 08:51 amWell, the last of the new computer parts came yesterday, and my brother put it together. After a few minor hitches (needed to flash the BIOS so it'd have the right bus speed settings for my CPU...it was a bit of a challenge on a machine with no floppy. Finally ended up booting from CDROM, then running flasher from Zip) we got the drive formatted and Windows installed. It took long enough that by the time stuff was done installing, it was already the time I'd meant to be in bed. So I haven't had much time to play with the thing yet.
One annoying thing I've discovered, though: I can't seem to get the rear speakers in my 5.1 system to play DVDs properly. I don't know if it's something with the drivers or the clients or what; I'm pretty sure the speakers are plugged in, as music plays through them when I play mp3s, and it seems to come through when I play the DVD through Media Player but not WinDVD or PowerDVD. I'll be playing more with it when I go home tonight...hopefully it can be worked out.
Didn't get enough sleep last night as a result of computerizing. Fortunately, training has been promised to be short today.
