So where were we?

Oh right. After the Liberty Bell Seven and Union Station, we headed on out again. We visited the Liberty Memorial to take a look; it was closed so we couldn't go up in the tower, but Travis still got some photos—including a rather silly one of me when I foolishly followed his instructions on how to pose. :) We then swung by Travis's office so he could retrieve some hardware he'd promised me and also sell me some pro-quality pest-control stuff to help keep the roaches down in the apartment. The hardware in question was a couple of PC cards (to add USB and Firewire to my Wallstreet) and an old CDROM burner that would nonetheless be able to produce Mac bootable discs. I'm particularly impressed by the USB card, since instead of being a "fat card" like my Orinoco Silver (which would mean I couldn't have both cards slotted at the same time) it actually uses a plug-in dongle to provide two USB ports. Very clever design.

After that, we drove around town for a little while, then headed back out toward Travis's, stopping at a subway shop on the way for dinner. Since Travis bought lunch, I paid for this. I wasn't really terribly hungry, as I'd eaten a big lunch...but Travis had eaten a light one. So he had a 12" turkey sub and I had a 6" Reuben, so in the end we came out about even.

After that, we swung by a video rental place with a pretty big animé selection, but I didn't really see anything that appealed to me. So we headed on back to Travis's place and I put Matrix in the DVD player and we watched. Travis found it entertaining. I'd hoped to move right on to Matrix Reloaded after that, but Travis wanted to show some other stuff instead, so we took turns watching varous relatively short anime and things. He showed me the first episode of Princess Nine (my verdict: looked interesting but not enough so to watch another episode just then), the first couple of Trigun (which I found quite enjoyable and plan to see more of soon), and the first couple of Battle Athletes Victory (looked like another promising show). At some point in there, he also showed me the 26-minute 1977 Doonesbury animated special, which I found quite amusing even though I'm not terribly familiar with the comics from that period.

In my turns, I showed Travis the Star Trek Weakest Link episode (he seemed to enjoy the antics of the actors but found the concept of the show distasteful) and the Batman Beyond pilot movie (I think he liked it). Also, he showed me the 2600-animated music video (which I'd actually seen before but stll enjoyed) and I showed him the fighting stick figures shockwave video. By the time we were done watching stuff, it was 2:30 a.m. for the second time (Daylight Savings Time having ended last night—heh, I still can't believe that of all the weekends I could have picked to visit, I picked the one where we'd have an extra hour. I wish I could say I planned it that way, but...) so we decided to retire.

For what it's worth, here are the photos that were taken during the excursions yesterday. I'm the one in the leather jacket, and Travis is the one who isn't me.

Today we're going to head a bit west to Lawrence and take in some sights and restaurants and things there, then I guess I'll head home either this afternoon or evening. I'm not quite sure yet when I want to leave...it's kind of a dichotomy between having more time to do (and perhaps watch) stuff up here and not having to drive after dark. Well, I guess I can discuss it with Travis over breakfast.

Further updates as the situation warrants.
