Well, here I am in training at MCI, on a ten minute break from the classroom. Not a lot of time to update, so I'll just hit the high points.

I'm going to be taking classroom training here for the next four weeks, and every weekday of that I'm going to be required to be in here at 7:30 a.m. Which means I have to be up at about 6:30. I would prefer getting up at about 11, but I suppose I'll just have to get used to it. It's not like there's much else to complain about in this job. The pay is decent, ranging to good, and there's a good benefits package. Getting this job may not be the end of the world after all. ;) And hey, I'm getting $8 an hour just for sitting on my butt in the classroom. Not bad at all.

I won a little radio alarm clock this morning for being quick off the mark to answer a quiz question. Heh.

The workplace is nice; great decor and they even have a couple of personal-use computers for checking email and the like. The only downside is that they're only enabled for web—no telnet access whatsoever. Which is okay for all those people who check their email by web, but since mine's on a Linux box...well, I'll just have to get the SSH client web applet that a friend developed set up on my computer. That'll make life a whole lot easier.

Well, my break's half over, so I'd better get a move on. I'll probably update again when I get home this evening.

go to www.rdrop.com and browse the links. There's a PERL app served that will check your mail anywhere.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I doubt it would work for me, unless it supports complicated agglomerations of multiple mailboxes...I'm subbed to enough mailing lists and things that I have about two dozen procmail folders that see use. In the end, I found a much better alternative called mindterm that looks like just what I need.

Just take a look at the fraggin' thing before you dismiss it out of hand. Ah, nevermind.

Well, the other reason I dismiss it is email isn't all I want to do, anyway—I also keep a TinyFugue session to a chatserver logged on a screen session so I can resume it and converse with my friends while I'm on breaks.

That's most likely a violation of your terms of employment there. Be very careful.
