Well, I suppose I owe people an entry more substantive than a jpeg or quiz answer or two in my LJ. Maybe I'm just being avoidant. :)

Anyway, the big important news first: a few days ago, I became an uncle twice over. My brother Aaron and his wife Jennifer had their second baby, Guinevere. (Their first, I may have mentioned, was Aeris, named for the Final Fantasy VII computer game character. Poor kids.) I haven't seen the new baby yet; I went down to the hospital to see the first one when it was born. It was cute and all, but as far as I'm concerned, if you've seen one baby, you've seen them all. I think I am going to enjoy being an uncle, at least when the kids get old enough to hold rational conversations...but until then, I'll be glad that I only have to deal with the kids for a short time.

I'm still jobless, though I'm looking and interviewing. I interviewed for a telemarketing position yesterday, though it wasn't much of an interview. The guy came in, had us fill out apps, and had us ask him questions; he said he was interviewing through today and would let us know if we made the cut after that. I haven't heard from him yet. Sigh.

Also yesterday, I made the somewhat unnerving discovery that there are no fewer than three chains of $1-shop here in Springfield: The Dollar Shop, Dollar Tree, and Deal$. Of the three, the latter two are much bigger than the small Dollar Shop...and Deal$, instead of just buying up whatever cheap trinkets they can find, has actually commissioned its own line of cheap stuff with its store logo on it—including a little $1 belt-clip FM radio which kind of tempted me just for the sheer smallness factor. (Then I remembered that I don't even listen to the radio that much anymore, and overcame the temptation.) It's somehow disturbing that there can be this much chintz in the world.

In other news, I've discovered an absolutely amazing web comic/manga. It's called Unicorn Jelly and is a single, epic story arc, with a "definitive (sic) beginning and ending." It's apparently just a few weeks away from the ending now. I'm glad I came to it relatively late, since I don't think I could have stood all the waiting to find out what was going to happen next! :) Anyway, don't just take my word for it. Go to the very first strip and start reading. Look at the skies! Jennifer Diane Reitz, the artist, is an absolutely incredible world-builder, as you'll find out from poking around her site...and the detail work and style of her web manga is astounding. It may start out cute and fuzzy...but the story gets bigger and darker as time goes by and mysteries are unearthed. Don't miss it. Just don't.
