Sitting at the computer at my brother's place, while family socializes in the living room outside. Don't really feel too much like being sociable, but I'll probably get dragged out there sooner or later.

Aeris, the baby, is cute and energetic as a nuclear button, about as usual. I don't really feel like I can relate to her at this age...it'll be interesting to see what she's like when she can actually communicate.

Last few days, I've been looking or work. Happened across a job-opp rag at the plasma center whilst donating on Monday, and applied for some of the positions within it. Unfortunately, none of them really looks like it'll work out. Got a Cutco knife sales gig lined up come January—but my other brother tried that and found it didn't work out too well. Another position was at some kind of "Saladmaster" cooking center...it looks like some kind of a sales job, having to do with cooking. On the phone, they said it was about "teaching people how to cook," but the application and signage in the place seemed to suggest they were actually in the business of selling cookware. Oh well. From the start, I sensed it probably wouldn't be the best choice of place to work, but since I was already there, I might as well fill out the application. I have to admit, it's kind of liberating to answer questions like "Why should we hire you instead of another applicant?" with "Because I would be a better employee than another applicant," or "What do you like most about our product?" with "I don't know anything about your product."

The third job, for which I drove about 15 miles to a nearby smaller town, turned out to be...another temp agency. Again, since I was there, I figured I might as well apply. I took a data entry test and a typing test (107 words per minute, 2 mistakes); I wonder if anything will come of that. I've applied at about four temp agencies so far, and none of them's ever offered me a job. Wonder why.

In other news, I've been getting ahold of some of the books on my Alexlit recommended reading list, and reading them—and once more I'm amazed at just how well that automatic good-book guessing machine works. So far, most of the books it's recommended have been ones I've quite enjoyed. In particular, the Liaden series by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (starting with Conflict of Honors). On the other hand, it's kind of frustrating to finish a good book the night before Thanksgiving, and notice that the library has the next two books in the series but since tomorrow's Thanksgiving, you can't get them.

Suppose I should go and be sociable some. Later.

Do an internet search on Vector Marketing/Cutco, the company has a reputation for being a scam.
