Notes from the end of the day
Oct. 10th, 2002 11:22 pmJust a few words before I go to bed.
Made $30 in tips today. Not bad for a Thursday. I'm starting to realize that the other day, where I made $31 from just two lunch deliveries, was a bit of a fluke. Oh well. I still made a bit over minimum, and I got more than half of the money I made at the end of the shift.
Spent about $6 of that money on the way home, stopping at Krispy Kreme. For the first time, I actually parked and went inside. It was amazing...definitely slick marketing there, the way they have all the merchandise, the people handing out pamphlets, and—most of all—the doughnut assembly line there behind glass for people to watch. (I overheard one person saying to his companion, "I could just watch this all day.") Though some of my friends don't particularly like Krispy Kreme doughnuts, I thought they were at least decent—and the "gimmick value" of eating them piping hot was also worth experiencing at least once. I have two doughnuts left over for breakfast tomorrow.
Though this is a great job, it's going to be heck on my recreation time. I'm working a "split shift," essentially, at least on the weekdays—getting two or so hours of leisure time at the middle of the day, instead of at the end where I can enjoy it more. As it is, I'm going to have to go to bed in a few minutes just so I can be up in time to go to work and do it all again.
Still...I've just done my first full honest day's labor since I got sacked from Kmart. And that feels good to sleep on. Hope my insomnia doesn't come back again.
