Midday Update
Oct. 10th, 2002 03:50 pmWell, the morning deliveries went pretty well. They had me zooming all over town, mostly on the west side; the last delivery was to the far north of town. I whizzed around, listening first to Yes, The Ladder, then Daft Punk, Discovery. Went pretty well.
One of the interesting things about this job is that, on most non-weekend days, there are actually two separate "shifts"—QuikDine stops taking orders at 2:00 (though there will be deliveries after that as the orders that came in before 2:00 go out) and starts again at 5:00. So, on these days, I'll have an hour or two to spend on my own between shifts. Unfortunately, my apartment is halfway across town, which means it'd be pretty far to go back, as I'd just have to turn right around again when I got there. But on the other hand, the Library Center is just up the street. I think I'm going to be spending a lot of time here.
At the moment, I think this QuikDine job is surely the best minwage job in the whole world. I get to spend most of the time sitting on my backside, in air-conditioned or heated comfort, listening to the radio blasting my favorite tunes from CD...sweet. Now, if only I could find a higher-paying job on a more permanent basis.
I've released a couple of BookCrossing books today—if "released" is the right word. I dropped them in the book sale donation bins at the local library. That way, they'll go to a good home, and also earn the library a little money. And perhaps whoever buys them will make an entry.
About twenty minutes 'til I need to head back to work. I'll check back in later.
