Got up at 8:30 a.m., dropped off a job app at the local hospital, and headed down to drop my car off at the Aurora mechanic's. Dad picked me up, drove me down to the house, we had lunch.

A couple hours later, we called the mechanic, and they hadn't even started on the car yet. However, they noted that the rack-and-pinion, which was the problem, would be on the order of $300-350 to replace, and that a better solution might be to add this thing called "Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak" to the tank, and it should make the seals tight enough to solve the problem on a continuing temporary basis. We all agreed that the car wasn't really worth putting $350 more into...and figured we might as well try this Lucas stuff, we could always get the part replaced if it didn't work.

So after that, I drove back up here to town, and added a bottle of Lucas to the power steering reservoir. Mighty thick stuff, about the consistency of honey. We'll see if it has any effect, I guess.

My other Great Adventure of the day involved Farscape. The new episode was due out tonight...but I don't get the channel on which it airs. So, I decided to bike over to the nearby college campus, of which I was no longer quite a student, and see if I could find a public-access TV, in the library or student union perhaps, on which to watch the show.

I'd forgotten that, during the summer sessions, places like the library and union close at 6 p.m. And most dorms lock their inner security doors at 7 p.m....

However, I got lucky. Freudenberger Dormitory's doors were propped open...and nobody was using the bigscreen TV set. So I slipped in, set up my Clie 415's universal remote software, and I was set. I watched a little of Force 10 from Navarone on Bravo, a little Invader Zim on Nick...and then the new Farscape on Sci-Fi. It was a great experience, marred only by a few dozen noisy students coming in about halfway through the show and staying to the 45 minute mark--getting so loud I had to go in and turn on the closed captioning just to keep up with what was going on!

Still...I watched it!
