Just went out and saw Men in Black II, or, as some people are calling it, MIIB (after the logo in the movie ads). Nifty movie--better than the first one, I'd say. There are quite a few nifty little in-jokes and references scattered through it, just as there were in the first one...only this one doesn't take the long time introducing the characters that the first one had to...it gets right into the action.

Before going down, I hit the SMSU campus to get some money from the ATM. The first ATM, in the sport center parking lot, was out of order, so I had to drive over to the one by the bookstore. As I walked from the bookstore parking lot to the machine, I was struck by how empty the campus was. It just seems wrong somehow to see a college campus like that...with no people in it, as far as the eye can see. Sort of a Night of the Comet or Quiet Earth feeling...everybody else in the world is gone, and you're still there.

Thinking of going home for the evening, spending the fourth with family. They're barbecuing, and in my current financial state, hey, I can always use a free meal.

Clie still seems to be holding up; I think they really did fix the problem this time. (Miracles never cease.)

And congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] demiurgent on the fix that's in. I'm glad to know he's going to be feeling better.

I'll have to respectfully disagree about MIB2. While I thought it had some great moments (like the locker, K's flashback, and other bits scattered throughout) that felt very right, too much of it relied on retreads and echos of the previous movie. I went with a non-geek friend who agreed, so I feel safe saying this wasn't fanboy letdown. :)

(And I'm not sure how I feel a sequel about recasting actors who played characters prominently killed in the previous movie. Evil Dead 2/Army of Darkness did something similar with a more prominent character, of course... ;) )
