Compassrose & miscellany

compassrose seems to be getting off to a good start, mailing-list-wise. I've already exchanged some good discussion with the other players, and the backgrounds we are coming up with could not have been more complementary if we had been in consultation from before we made our characters. (Unlike some people, though, I'm not gonna tell you exactly what they are. :)
As I was rummaging through my Jordan Greywolf art gallery, I was once again reminded of the picture at right. It's been one of my favorites for quite a while. The simplicity of the design, the message in the calligraphy...I wish I had a higher-res version. (I should see if Jordan still has the original on file somewhere.) Anyway, if people can share comic strips in their pages, I feel like I can share this. :)
Got an email from my Mom this morning asking about when they could pick me up for the carpool to my brother's wedding near St. Louis next weekend. I gritted my teeth, braced myself, and sent back my reply about planning to drive myself. I expect a storm of parental controversy to hit me within the next few hours...but I am determined to stand my ground on this point.
Last time we went to a distant wedding and I carpooled, I took a bus to a nearby shopping center to grab some film...then couldn't find my way back to the hotel, and they couldn't find their way to me, and it all got confusing and we all ended up steamed at each other. I am more confident in my ability to read maps and not get lost than I am in our ability to do all the things we want if we have to share one car. Besides, the chance to do some city driving is half the fun of these distant trips. Why'm I going to sit in a car for several long, boring hours without a PDA (given that I'll not be getting it back 'til after we return) if I don't even get the fun of driving in city traffic when we get there?
