Return from Extropia
Jun. 4th, 2002 10:22 pmWell, earlier today I called my new local-via-RPGnet friend
extropian to see about getting together sometime. That time turned out to be today, and he said it would be okay if I drove up to see him. So, I loaded my Nobilis RPGs and drafts in the car and drove on up, purchasing a meal for myself at Long John Silver's and some fries for him by request along the way. He was concerned that I might get lost, but I had run his address through Mapquest, and was confident in my ability to grok the map well enough to find him.
And, as it turned out, I was right. Pulled into his place about 5:30 or so, and I ate while he looked over the RPG books I brought. He hadn't ever seen the Pharos edition of Nobilis, and was impressed by how much better-looking the new edition was. I also brought along my playtest copies of that game and De Profundis, which he could then glance through.
After that, he showed me some of the RPGs he had...including one gem called Age of Ruin that looked as though its cover had been done by kindergartners...in crayon. What was worse...he actually has Synnibar. And a bunch of Senzar stuff, too. I thought he was just kidding about that! But no...he has it. The horror...the horror...
We watched a couple of the BMW films from the BMW The Hire DVD I'd brought along on the PS2 in his room, and then it came out that he hadn't yet seen Attack of the Clones. So, we got online and looked up when it was showing, and drove down to see it. It's fun seeing that movie when you know what to look for...the little things like Jango Fett bumping his head, or the contents of that left-hand video screen in the bar...and even more fun to be seeing it with a friend when the place isn't crowded, so you can make snide remarks to each other without anyone getting upset. (o/~ "The hills are aliiiiive..." o/~)
Anyway, we both enjoyed the film (some parts of it more than others). After that, I drove him back home, then drove me back home, and here I am.
extropian seems like a decent guy--and I'm not just saying that because I know he'll end up reading this. Well, okay, maybe a little... :) It was a good evening.
