Got to [livejournal.com profile] blacknumber01's place about 12:20, picked up the bread machine pan and slicer rack that I had left at his place last night; proceeded on my way. Got to the dentist's about 20 minutes ahead of schedule, and didn't have to wait long before he could fit me in.

He proceeded to spend 20 minutes numbing the entire right side of my face up to my eyelid, to be good and certain the teeth didn't hurt coming out, all the while talking in a friendly and oft humorous manner ("Those teeth are sure a long way back in your mouth. That's kind of a serious design flaw, in my opinion. Of course, I try not to say that too loud, lest I get hit by a bolt of lightning...") Then it only took about five minutes to pop the teeth out. There was a bit of crunching sensation, but no pain. Then I left with gauze in mouth and teeth in pocket and headed down the rest of the way to the parental place, where I am right now.

It's kind of funny--everyone I mention this to is all, "Oh, I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at once. Best few hours unconscious I ever spent." I don't think I've yet talked to another person who had them out under local like I did. I have to say, it's definitely a better thing all around than going under; this is the third time I've had this procedure, and now I have no wisdom teeth left. No spending days recovering from being knocked out; just a bit of soreness for which I get to take analgesics for a few days. The last couple of times, it didn't even hurt after a couple of days. This time, he said, I'd probably have a bit of residual soreness for about a week from the swelling I'd gotten from the jagged cavitied tooth cutting into the side of my mouth.

All in all, I'm happy with the whole thing. Still numb in the face, and will be for a few more hours. Hopefully, though, it'll be gone by time to eat.

Tonight, we're having my Dad's broccoli-cheese soup, at my request; I also brought down some of that jalapeno-cheese bread machine mix I mentioned a couple of posts back, to go with it. And, of course, the cake that was left over from last night. It's my birthday cake, after all; it should be shared with someone.

So I'm here at home, feeling a bit relieved in the mouth, listening to my Dad's country music playing in the background, and banging away on his annoying ergonomic keyboard. I keep telling myself I need to bring a more decent one home with me when I come so I can use it and type at the speed and accuracy to which I am accustomed, but I never can seem to remember. I brought along True Stories to see whether my Dad likes it; I give it about a 50-50 chance. He did used to watch Twin Peaks, after all.

Anyway, that's all for now. More later, maybe.
