I woke up this morning in the happy warm hazy state of having had enough sleep, yet having woken up long enough before the alarm for me to spend as long as I liked simply vegetating under the covers, waking up by degrees and savoring the feeling of finally having gotten enough sleep for a change.

Finally, I dragged myself out of bed, threw on some clothes, and sat down at the computer to perform my morning website checks. Slashdot, the morning comics like Suburban Jungle and Never Never, and of course news sites like Wired. I read a few articles, wrote the editor letter I posted earlier, chatted with my friends a little, then headed off to work for four and one half hours.

Work today was decent enough, except for having to wait 3 hours for my break. I was scheduled at 2:30, but nobody got around to telling me to go, so I waited 'til 3:30 and asked for it myself. That's about the longest I've waited past the time I was supposed to go, but I was curious to see if anyone would notice--and besides, the longer I work before the break, the shorter I have to work after it.

When time came for me to leave, I went up to the desk and asked Kristy, who was working the supervisor's position, if I could bag out. She said yes, and so I did--despite the fact that there weren't any other cashiers on at the moment, and they had to scramble to get someone up to take the customers with too many lines for the self-checkouts. I suppose I should have been a nice guy and volunteered to stay on until the cashier scheduled at 5 came on--but at the moment, I just wanted to get out of there.

But not so fast that I didn't stop off by the front desk again and ask Kristy if I could take her out to see Fellowship of the Ring. After a bit of reluctance, she agreed for Monday night. (This is not entirely an altruistic act on my part; my mother, bless her heart, is always trying to set me up with someone, and offered to reimburse me for the cost of the movie if I take Kristy out to it. So why not? I want to see it again anyway . . .)

As I was waiting to speak to her, I happened to fiddle around with the bluelight.com kiosk sitting at the service desk, and noticed there was a page with instructions on how to submit a resume to K-Mart. Happily, it simply involved emailing a text version of it to an address--that's easily enough done. And so I've done it.

Now I've gotten home, fed the cats, and am settling in for a nice, relaxing evening. I don't know what I'll do, exactly; maybe write some, maybe reboot back into Windows and watch a DVD movie. I've got options.

Also, I sent out the SASE to that company that contacted me. It rather sounds fly-by-night, but you never know . . . and it's worth the cost of couple of stamps to satisfy my curiosity.
