Status Tonight
Jan. 8th, 2002 10:31 pmWell, I worked four hours today; tomorrow I have to get up early (for me) at 9 a.m., and go in to school and take a general education survey test. It's the last thing I need before they give me my diploma. It's a good thing that a friend of mine suggested I should call and make sure I had graduated; if I hadn't gotten it out of the way this week, it might have led to delays, since Friday is when they'll be printing and sending the diplomas out.
I've posted my résumé to various places on-line, and I've gotten a nibble or two so far. Not anything very encouraging, though, yet. One fellow wrote to me asking if I was still interested in a job, could I send my résumé, and could he set up a time to call me--without giving any details at all about what the job is. Now, given that I only have a cellphone, I'm not terribly eager to spend my minutes in contact if it's essentially a "get rich quick" scheme, or telemarketing, or something like that. I've written and asked for more details; have to see what that provides.
My brother suggests going through the yellow pages and canvassing local computer places with my résumé. It's an interesting idea, and one I had not thought of. Silly me, I guess, being so focussed on job searching through databases and postings and things that I'd forgotten there was an old-fashioned way, too. Sigh, I suppose they'll want me to fill out applications along with the résumé. I hate those things. I suppose I should get permission from some people to use them as references; I imagine the employers would want those, too.
Watched Lara Croft: Tomb Raider tonight, since I have to get it back to the rental place tomorrow. It was a decent movie, but decent is all I can really say for it. It was sort of neither fish nor fowl; it didn't really have enough action sequences to be a great action movie, nor was the story sufficiently gripping to involve one emotionally with the characters. In the end, you're just left watching Angelina Jolie and her two friends (and no, I don't mean the automatic pistols) do the most improbable acrobatic stunts and wondering how she manages them without losing her balance.
Oh well. At least it was a fairly cheap rental, and I got to watch it at home where I could pause it to use the restroom or whatever.
As soon as I finish up this journal entry, I'll get the leftovers of the instant potato soup I made last night out of the fridge, warm it up, and enjoy a late snack before going to bed. I just tried the soup for the first time last night; it was given me by my grandmother for Christmas after she'd heard how much I liked the last packet of soup mixes of the same brand that she gave me a couple of years back. It's pretty good, as potato soup goes. I can generally take it or leave it, myself, but it's warm, nourishing, and filling--not to mention cheap. And I'm starting to worry about the money situation a bit.
Anyway, that's all from this front. More tomorrow.
