Life plods on
Jan. 6th, 2002 06:16 pmFor folks who're wondering why the brief appearance of a blank entry here, Livejournal's taken lately to losing its connection somehow when I leave the program up for a while, so that I write a lengthy journal entry, it fails to connect, so I end up having to copy the whole thing and restart the program just so I can post. Didn't feel like going through that today, so I made a test to make sure I could post, and I'm going back to fill in the fuller content now.
Another four hour workday. I have five of them in a row coming up--well, of four and five hour days. I suppose that's better than eight hour ones. Less strain all at once. Still, I hope I can find a better job soon. I should be earning more money than $7 an hour.
I have these little tricks I use to make the time go by faster at work. For instance, I've trained myself to avoid looking at my watch, the clock, or the little time display in the corner of the screen. If I avoid watching the pot, it seems to boil faster. The shorter days like this, the time practically flies by.
I've gotten my resume a little more in order now. I'm not entirely sure I like the arrangement, because due to the way the sections break, I have a front page that's only about 2/3 full, followed by a back page that's crammed to the point where I had to decrease font size to get everything on. But I can't go to 3 pages, I just can't. Even 2 is push ing it lengthwise. Maybe I should delete the section about the year I spent at grad school but never got a degree out of?
I'm looking into putting my resume on the on-line jobsearch sites now. It's a little exciting...I feel much more qualified this time for the sort of employment I'm seeking. I actually understand more of the terms they use this time; "Oracle" and "SQL" don't scare me so much. I'm wondering if I'll actually get any bites or even nibbles this time? Maybe I can relocate to some part of the country closer to where my friends are (so I can annoy them in person instead of on-line)! Well, we'll just have to see what happens, I suppose.
