I must be crazy
Nov. 2nd, 2001 06:06 pmI've been writing on a rather lengthy story, that only a handful of people will probably ever see.
It's part of the background for the world some friends and I made up, in which we roleplay. I've been having some trouble getting into it, so I'm writing a story that sets up some background so I can bring characters in. I must have written close to 80K of ASCII so far on it, and I'm only maybe a third to a half done with it.
The irony is, it's probably some of my best work, and one of few things I've ever written that wasn't fanfic. I'm doing it out of love, rather than for money.
It's funny...most of the time I want to write something, I just can't come up with something original. It's all derivative of something...usually close enough to be fanfic. And now...I have something decently original, or at least derivative of different things...and nobody will ever see it.
I wish someone would hire me to write stories in an already predefined setting I enjoyed. Even if only a nickel a word, it would still be easy money--and something I'd like doing. Hey, any Star Trek producers out there wanna give me a try? :P
