Work intensifies; holiday follies
Nov. 20th, 2010 01:56 amIt's really been getting busy at work lately. The last few days I've had pretty much nonstop calls at work. I guess the holiday season is to blame: more bargains are to be had, and more people are buying them for themselves, as well as for Christmas gifts.
We had originally been going to have Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday off at work, and I had been thinking of working Thanksgiving and skipping Black Friday. But then Mom and Dad announced they were having a Thanksgiving Day get-together after all, and more recently I became aware that Black Friday is going to be a mandatory workday. We'll get double-pay for it as a working holiday, but we darned well are going to be working it whether we like it or not.
So it turns out I'm going to be taking Thanksgiving Day off (with standard 1x pay) and going down to hobnob with the parentals and other gathering family, then working Black Friday. What's more, my supe told me that people who take off Thanksgiving will be expected to hold themselves on call, ready to be called in to work, the following Sunday. Huh. Apparently they expect heavy call volume and believe they're going to need extra hands.
Well, upon reflection, I didn't have plans for that Sunday anyway. And if I do end up having to work it, well, that's the equivalent of two days at double pay that week.
Meanwhile, I have plans for this Sunday. I'm going to be waking up early and heading down to Bentonville, AR to attend an anime convention where I hope to get to meet Richard Epcar, a Robotech voice actor I interviewed for my podcast, and perhaps another Robotech voice actor too. Looking forward to it.
And looking forward to the end of this holiday season, too. Hmm, Christmas is a Saturday, which means I should have a three-day weekend…unless they want me to work that Sunday, too.
