Yesterday's grocery adventure
Went out grocery shopping yesterday afternoon/evening. I went out to the bus stop—then I realized, looking at all the people waiting on the other side of the road, that the bus ran hourly on Saturdays…and it would be a half hour until it came northbound, the direction I needed to get groceries.
So I went ahead and bought a transfer pass for an extra dime, figuring I could transfer to the South National line which would take me back to the bus station…and in the mean time, I could get myself a bite to eat. I was thinking of food court sushi again, then I realized that there was only one more South National bus running, and it would be at the mall 25 minutes after I got off. Not enough time. The only night bus to come to the mall after that would be the night version of the same bus I was on—probably with the same driver, who probably wouldn't let me use the transfer, and it would be embarrassing all around.
So I settled for a pretzel dog at Auntie Anne's, then took the South National bus back up to where it turned onto Cherry, not far from the grocery store, and walked the rest of the way.
At the grocery store, I encountered a helpful clerk who noticed the BattleTech cap I was wearing and asked about it. Sensing a kindred spirit, I handed him a flier to the SpringfieldGAME event we're putting on in October. (He said he already had one, but I didn't ask him where he'd gotten it.)
By a coincidence, I finished shopping right at 8 p.m., when he was getting off work. I had called a cab, but then he offered to drive me home in his SUV instead. I happily took him up on that offer.
Of course, after I got home I immediately remembered a number of things I'd forgotten to buy…
