Well, here I yam in the Coffee Ethic downtown coffeehouse on the square in Springfield. I was watching the backhoes at work outside for a while, but they seem to have laid off for the day.
Yesterday I went down to PenMac and went through their application and typing tests, but they closed before I could complete the process. Today I went down and finished it all up. PenMac is a temp agency, like Adecco. Given that Adecco got me my job with Mihlfeld, I figured it couldn't hurt.

The lady I talked to as the last part of the process was very impressed by my typing speed. She said she'd never personally met anyone who typed 112 gross words per minute. (It was only 98 net, though. Usually I do over 100. But oh well.) I explained that I was looking for a full-time position, temp-to-perm, and she said she had two positions like that available. One of them was for a trash company, paying $9.50 an hour; the other was collections work for the local Gannett paper. $9/hr to start, $10/hr and full benefits if they hire me on after 3 months.
At the mention of the paper, I perked right up. My Mihlfeld job started out as data entry but let me move laterally into I.T. If this job lets me start as customer service but move laterally into writing, that would be great. The PenMac lady is going to send my resume over, and maybe they'll call me for an interview. Fingers crossed. I want that job badly…and I also want the car my folks are keeping for me iffenwhen I get a full-time position.

In other news, Yakov Smirnoff, the well-known ex-Soviet comedian, is teaching an intersession course in business school at my alma mater, Missouri State University. What a country! Costs $186 in admission fees, though, so I doubt I'll be able to make it. Maybe next year.
