Today I stopped by the bank on the way home and exchanged two twenties for twenty twos.
As I was entering those bills into Where's George, I noticed one of them had the following written on it in ballpoint:
7-15-96
To: KriscyerA
From: Christy & Bubby
2nd Birthday
we love you
I'm not entirely sure about the spelling of the names. It could be KriscyedA.The penmanship was kind of bad.
But it's funny to think about it. This is the sort of bill marking that was around long before Where's George. People writing a little message in a bottle on their note, giving it to its intended, and its intended spending it from there.
Who was KriscyerA? (What kind of a name is that, anyway?) Where was he or she? Was the bill put aside until he was old enough to spend it, or was it spent by his parents instead? How many people have handled this bill and examined its curious message? Of course, I'll never know.
Whoever the kid was, he would be thirteen and a half now, and has probably long forgotten this gift, if he was ever actually aware of it to begin with. But everyone who gets this bill and looks closely at it will wonder the same things I do.
