I noticed a new billboard on Glenstone St. as I was pulling out of my house on one of my errands today: a big K.C. Royals advert saying "Hit the road to K.C.!" Funny, given that was exactly what I did today.

I meant to get left fairly early on, but it's funny how things go on trips...every little thing that can go wrong to slow you up does. Due to my computer game habit, I'm a bit overdue in my laundry...so I had to drop some clothes off at a nearby laundromat which does bundle service in order to get it done so I could complete packing while it was being done. And then I realized on the way out of town that I was a month overdue on an oil change and had to get that done. And then I stopped at Walmart to gas up, only running out of gas once on the way over there. To make a long story short, it was 3 o'clock before I managed to get left, and 6 by the time I got to K.C.

I'm currently sitting and waiting at Union Station for my friend [livejournal.com profile] tbutler to show up, so we can head up to the convention hotel. Once again, I'm struck by the beauty of this wonderful old stone building, gloriously refurbished to its original splendor. It's enough to make me wish I lived near here, so I could spend more time just sitting out here and 'netting like I am now.

I love cities. It's sort of neat, watching the skyline of Kansas City come into view as I head up the highway into town. There's a certain degree of unreality about it. It's like you're watching a movie and it's a model someone's built, it all seems so far away. Only, it's not...and all those massive edifices are really there. They were put together by the hands of many men over a long, long period of time—a record for the ages of the things which we can do when we only put in the effort.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this convention, and the chance to meet the author John Ringo in person. I'll record more as I have the chance.
