Came down to the main branch of the public library because it's a nice place to be, and I'd been told that they had public wireless access.

But they don't yet. Not open to the public, anyway. So at the moment I'm sitting in a small meeting room with a borrowed cable plugged into the wall. Not my preferred choice of venue. I'll probably end up noodling around for a bit, then heading over to Ziggies, where I may not be able to plug in but I can at least get online and eat breakfast at the same time.

Stopping in from the laptop station of a Kinko's now. Was near the Big Lots where I stopped to buy an Ethernet cable and a small optical mouse that I can use with my laptop. Sometimes a track ball just doesn't cut it.

Working on a review of Online! The Book, an Internet guide that I've promised to review for my local LUG who get publisher bennies for reviews that appear. Interesting enough book, and I'll link to my review if Slashdot posts it. Something amusing about it, though: it contains a pair of sentences that seem almost calculated to annoy the "GNU/Linux contingent"—the folks who hold that Linux should be referred to as "GNU/Linux" because everything but the Linux kernel was created by the Free Software Foundation for GNU ("GNU's Not Unix"). Those sentences being, "Linux was created by Linus Torvalds (University of Helsinki, Finland). In 1991, he released the basic OS, which consisted of his kernel and some tools." Way to go, guys.
