So, I was planning to take off work Wednesday and do some visiting with my Dad whilst picking up the car to bring it back home. (The car, by the way, apparently turned out to have absolutely nothing wrong with it that could have caused the breakdown...even the battery that was supposedly dead is still perfectly good. And the icing on the cake is that the oil drain plug, which Walmart's car-care people told me was "cross-threaded," had nothing wrong with it either.) We had it all arranged...the phone company that employs me was offering a day of "undertime" (authorized leave either without pay or else using a day of vacation time) on Wednesday, and that seemed like a good time to do it.

And then, today, I was informed that the company has retracted all undertime offers for this week...including mine. After I'd made all the arrangements for the visit.

It's not so much having to work the day that annoys me...and heck, it won't even interfere with picking up the car, as I can be down there and back with it before work starts on Wednesday. And Wednesday probably wasn't that good of a day for a visit anyway.

What annoys me is that it feels like I'm breaking my word, by having made all the arrangements for a visit and being told at the 9th or 10th hour that sorry, we're not giving you a day off after all. Makes me feel like an idiot for having dared to plan ahead.

Oh well. Life goes on.
