I stopped in at the local AT&T stores yesterday, and checked with them to see if they could offer me the same promo offer to upgrade to GSM that the phone customer service dept could. The first one was out of that model of phone, but the second one said that they had it and could do that—and could save me the shipping costs that I'd have gotten if I'd ordered it by phone. So, for $25 plus $15 activation, I can be on the kind of phone that I was wanting to get when I bought this one in the first place.

The one hitch is that the computer system they use for upgrading customers to GSM is still down. And has been for the last couple of days. I got up early today in the hope I could go in and get the upgrade done before work...but no, computer's still down. They're hoping to have it up this afternoon...but they were hoping to have it up yesterday, too.

I suppose that I"m no worse off than I've always been with my old phone until I can upgrade to the new one. But I'm just so eager to get the whole "new toy" experience thing...especially since the phone comes with AIM and Yahoo Messenger built in, so for the first time I'll be able to instant-message chat from work. (I wanted to be able to send text messages with my first phone, which is why I bought it to begin with...but it turned out the phone could only receive them, not send them. Bleah.)

I guess I can call this afternoon to see if they've got it back up yet, then see if I can get off work early tonight and go down before the store closes. Or if nothing else, get up earlier again tomorrow morning. I just wish I could get my hands on it now now NOW.
