My day, and phone monitoring
Mar. 19th, 2003 02:45 pmWell, this time I did set my alarm...the problem is, I set it twelve hours off. So I woke up this morning, saw 7:10 a.m., and went into panic mode again. Managed not to be late, but since I couldn't find the cat before I left but didn't remember letting her out, and didn't have time to search to make sure, I just had to hope that I hadn't until lunch.
Lunch was 70 minutes long, so I took advantage of it to zip back home, shave, and check for the cat. As it turned out, I hadn't left her inside after all—or, at least, I couldn't find her there—so all I had to do was shave, eat, and get back. I was a little bit late, but I hope that it won't count against me.
After that, it was to the floor to monitor calls, learning from the experience of our seniors. My first monitor happened to be someone I'd known for a while, though it had been so long since I'd seen her that I hadn't recognized her. Bit of embarrassment there, but it was okay. She's a cool person. Maybe I'll see her around some more once I'm in the bays.
Our monitoring session was somewhat interrupted by all the reps in the bay being sent home due to low call volume. So we were hastily shuffled to another bay to finish out our monitoring time.
One highlight of the monitoring...the first caller was talking about needing to dial an international number, and he was confused by the little "half-circles" around part of the phone number. "They call those parentheses," the phone-rep explained.
