...someone on alt.binaries.e-book posting a request for the Left Behind novels. Gee, haven't they ever heard "thou shalt not steal"?

I was just over in the Chamber of Commerce, and they had CNN playing on a TV screen. I glanced at it walking by, and in one of the multitudinous text banner areas that clutter half their screen were the words: "Bush on Pledge Ruling: 'We received our rights from God.'"

Now I have this image of George W. Bush in a Blues Brothers suit and glasses that I just can't get out of my mind...

Well, someone just left another phone book on my doorstep. I seem to be getting phone books from two different phone book companies. Both of them full, complete, white-and-yellow pages books.

The irony is, I don't even have a landline phone anymore.

As I'm just about to go do laundry and mail an envelope to Europe, I sit here, I look at my new Euro coin, and I reflect on the Internet. Just ten years or so ago, I wouldn't have conceived that I could casually sell a trinket to someone living in France. I mean, France! That's all the way across the ocean. How would I and she ever have a forum in common where I could sell and she could buy?

But the Internet came through and changed a heck of a lot. Now one of the friends I "talk" to online every evening (my time) is from Germany, several are from England, and a couple are from Australia. It amazes me a little every time I think about it...that I can sit here and do things on my keyboard, and the electrons I change are also changed on somebody else's screen halfway around the world. And then they can twiddle their keyboards and the words appear magically in front of me. It's like the instant teleportation you see on Star Trek, but in this case it's a teleportation of ideas.

Sad thing is, all those years ago, when people envisioned world-wide communication coming into being, they sort of assumed it would mean The End of War On Earth. Instead, it's meant more strife and discord as people protest against "globalization" and our adversaries can watch our moves reported on CNN. Looks like we still have some distance to go yet.

And speaking of distance to go, I'd best get a move on. Need to go send that package off, do the laundry, and make preparations for the trip to St. Louis tomorrow.
