Well, I'm not a happy camper.
Seems I've been permanently deferred from selling plasma at one of the local plasma centers, because of having elevated ALT liver enzyme levels twice over thirty days. Thus, I can never, ever again sell plasma at that center.
I suppose I shouldn't be too upset over this--there's still another plasma center in town, and it's actually a couple of blocks closer to where I live; I can walk it instead of relying upon the increasingly-rickety bicycle. But it's a reminder that if I get deferred again, at this place, then I'm out that $40-or-so a week...right when I need it most. (Also annoyingly, they stopped accepting walk-in patients for the day an hour before I showed up; so I made an appointment for Thursday.)
I'm also moderately worried about the ALT thing. The form letter they gave me to explain my deferral suggested the most likely causes having been recent alcohol consumption or recent physical exertion--thus, it might just be one of those fiddly little things that they worry about because it might be a harbinger of something else, but isn't necessarily. Goodness knows, I do enough physical exertion right before selling there, just bicycling up the street in the heat of the day. Either way, though, it's not something I can afford to have checked out; I don't have the money or the insurance policy to cover a doctoral visit.
