Yesterday evening went pretty well. We watched True Stories together, and to my delight, both Mom & Dad liked it. They didn't expect to, but they did. After that, we had the cake. Well, Mom & I did; Dad doesn't eat chocolate.

That was some great cake. Joe, if you're reading this--right on! Good stuff, man.

After that, Dad watched Stargate while I noodled on the computer some, and my laundry got washed and mostly dried. I headed back home about 10:15 or so.

My jaw's a little sore today, but really nothing that a couple of Aleve won't handle. The soreness will probably be gone entirely by tomorrow or the next day; then all that's left will be the swelling. It is soooo good to be without that stabbing tooth pain at long last!

I just found a really great bit of animation cinema, thanks to a friend's journal entry. Constant Payne is sort of a hip modern update of old pulp tropes, like Doc Savage. The site features the opening credits plus a ten-minute pilot episode, downloadable as Quicktime. Some very nice touches there. I hope it finds a good home.

On the agenda for today: drying the last load of laundry at a laundromat, and interviewing at Adecco, a local temp/perm placement firm. Sure hope they can find me something.

More later.

I interviewed at the temp agency. It was the usual hour of runaround. Fill out this form, that form, take this test, that test, watch this "how to tell if something is harassment" video, and so on.

I get the sinking feeling that I really should have lied through my teeth on the ethics test, instead of being reasonably honest. Do I believe that most people steal a bit of on-the-job time every now and then? Well, sure, duh! It's human nature; it'll happen by accident if nothing else. But that's probably not what they want to hear.

And here's my dilemma. At the moment, I've got sort of a flexible schedule at the bankrupt retail store--I'm available just about any day of the week as long as I get a couple of them off. It's seemed to work out okay so far; I get a bunch of four hour workdays, nothing too draining on me by the end of the day.

But in order to be available for temping positions, I'm going to have to cut the number of days I'm available for the retail store substantially--which means either my hours will drop, or my days will get longer, or both. And this is for a temp agency that said they couldn't actually guarantee me any jobs. Apparently a lot of the jobs they get want experienced people. It's a big change to make for little guarantee of assignment--but I'm going to have to make that change in schedule within the next few days. Advice would be helpful.
Found an interesting link on someone else's LJ today. Apparently the Coca Cola company stole some artwork from an ad agency artist, touching off a chain of events that exposed corruption at the highest levels of the Chicago courts. It's told through this somewhat lengthy but very detailed article. Scary stuff.
