Insomnia, and LJ does it again

Woke up two hours early.
Tossed and turned to one, listening to music to try to lull me back to sleep.
Gave up on it after one hour, got up, came in to check my email and read webcomics and LJ posts and stuff. Gonna be another drowsy day. :/

news, our friends at LiveJournal Inc. have, in a mad, Frankensteinian process, hastened to sew yet another leg onto their body just so they could shoot themselves in yet another foot. It seems that, without any prior warning or notice, and against the advice of Brad Fitzpatrick, LJ's founder and fellow Advisory Board members Danah Boyd and Esther Dyson, they have made a "business decision" to remove the ability to create new Basic accounts. That's right, anyone who wants a new LJ account from now on will either have to pay or put up with advertising. (And some people are gloomily predicting that, sooner or later, all those people with existing Basic accounts will find themselves slammed onto the adverjournal train, too.)
If there was a way to move to some other LJ clone but take all my friends with me, I'd be there in a heartbeat. At the moment, I'm just making sure to archive all my LJ posts daily, in case something should happen. (I wonder if there's a way to "reverse archive" them if I should get a new account on some other LJ clone?)
