Reviving Robotech: The Misfold
Sep. 21st, 2007 06:37 pmAs it kind of gnaws at me to leave something unfinished, I've just finished uploading all six extant parts of the early Robotech collaborative fiction piece Robotech: The Misfold thus far to Google Documents.
If anyone would like to join in the project, to either read or write, email me your Google ID (if you don't have one, you can make one, it's free) and I'll share the documents to you.
The work to be done on it is two-fold:
First, to update and bring it up to current understanding of official Robotech continuity (as close as we can get it). This may mean changing dates, revising mecha (for instance, any references to Vindicators need to be changed since Vindicators never actually existed), and so on.
Second, to continue and complete it, with me as editor. I edited and rewrote a lot of the bits of the original Misfold (I always credited the segment to both myself and the original author when my changes were substantial) and will continue to do the same. This may mean I'll end up changing what people write considerably, or even rejecting it altogether, in favor of my vision of the story. If in doubt, contact me with a rough outline of what you want to write, and I'll figure out whether or not it will fit, or how.
I'll also ask that people not use any markup that can't be converted into ascii, such as italics or boldface, because once each bit is near enough complete to suit me, it'll be reposted to USENET, mailing lists, fanfic sites, and so on.
Also, if any of you happen to know where the original writers of some of the bits have gone, do let me know. I hardly expect every (or even any!) email address to remain valid after 15 years.
In a way, I'm a little hesitant about the project, because I haven't read this in years and have improved considerably since then. There will be a temptation to change stuff dramatically because I'm embarrassed to read it. I'll try to resist that, because changing too much would lose the flavor.
Edit: I just realized: today is actually the fifteenth anniversary of the beginning of Misfold.
Wow.
