More on the stabbing...

robotech_masterWhen I got home last night, I spoke to my next door neighbors--the ones who live between me and the stabber. They were able to tell me what was going on.
Basically, there are these two guys who live on the other side of them from me. We'll call them the Stabber and the Stabbee, since I don't feel I should post their names publicly and, me being me, can't remember them anyway. I've been over to their place, watched movies with them a couple of times...they seem to have a bit of an odd relationship, those two. The Stabbee seems more mature than the Stabber, and seems to have a sort of almost parental attitude to the Stabber. And yet, they both seem to drink a lot. The Stabbee has a higher capacity for alcohol than the Stabber, but the Stabber seems to feel like he has to "keep up" for some reason. And he gets totally falling down drunk, and passes out on the floor.
The neighbors said, and granted this is hearsay, that the Stabber and the Stabbee had gotten into an argument, and the Stabber had stabbed the Stabbee in the head, then bashed him over the head with a liquor bottle. The Stabbee had gone to the neighbors' then, asked them to call 911. An ambulance came and he got 68 stitches; the police came and investigated, as I saw.
The neighbors said (but didn't elaborate) that the Stabber was supposed to be in a mental institution, but wasn't, and that, even though the Stabber had subsequently threatened the police with the knife, he was being released that evening. Apparently neither the Stabbee nor the police were pressing charges. Go figure.
