I was talking to a potential new customer who mentioned that his computer was down so he'd be checking our website when he got the new one in. I suggested he could check it from a public library, if he should happen to be in the area checking out books anyway. Says the customer, "I quit checking out books when they put the spies in the public libraries."

Smile and nod time...

Well, yes, I'm aware of that, but it's not quite the same thing as putting a spy in each library. Gives me the image of a shifty-eyed little man in a trenchcoat peeping out from behind a bookshelf...

Spies take many forms. For example, librarians, whether they like it or not, under the requirements of the USA PATRIOT Act.

You really are out of touch with the realities of our brave new republic, aren't you.

Not just librarians, but anyone who works at a library, has to report when 'potential terrorists' check out 'questionable books.'
