Fridays are traditionally un-busy here at work. Which means I had even more time than usual to write up a brief update for my essay journal having to do with Ted Kennedy's appearance on the terrorist no-fly watch list. Check it out.

I've had to go ahead and remind myself to be patient in connection with the "free iPods" site thing. Apparently most of the trial offers take at least a week or so to register completion...so I'm not doing myself any good checking the website ten times a day to see if anyone's completed yet. I still have this irresistable urge to go load up the page even now, but I just need to stop watching that pot.

I've discovered that a voice from my youth, Paul Harvey's news & comment, has his current shows available through streaming audio over the Internet—so I don't even have to listen to the radio to hear him anymore. I took a listen yesterday, for probably the first time in years. Harvey's voice is still strong, still has all the little mannerisms I remember from listening during my growing-up years when my Dad listened to his show every day...he sounds a lot older, though. He must surely be about a million years old by now.

I can't help but think of Paul Harvey as being one of the main forerunners of the "blog" style of journalism. He gives the news, but gives it couched in commentary—he doesn't try to be impartial, just calls it like he sees it. And now that ordinary people have web printing presses, we can call it the same way. I may not always agree with what Paul has to say, but I still enjoy listening to the way he says it.

"Paul Harvey...good DAY!"
