A Reverse Pawn Operation
May. 19th, 2004 01:38 pmSo, early last week, since all my friends were getting into City of Heroes, I decided I'd finally take the plunge—especially since I had located a sealed copy on eBay for $36.49, including shipping. So I placed the order...waited expectantly for it to get here...hoping it would have shown up by Saturday...but it hadn't.
So I weighed the risks (what if the box wasn't sealed or Best Buy wouldn't take it back for some reason?), decided they were acceptible (I could probably still sell it for at least as much as I paid for it), and went down to Best Buy to pick up a copy at the $50 retail price. Spent Saturday evening, all day Sunday, and substantial portions of Mon, Tues, & Wed playing...and then the eBay copy arrived yesterday. So I took it down to Best Buy and returned it with the Best Buy receipt to get my $53 charged back to my card.
So, basically, I "pawned" $50 of my money for the game a few days in advance, then took the new game back to get my money out of hock. So when all's said and done, not only did I get to play the game 3 days early, I still paid significantly less than retail for it. Yay, me. :)
