Bed looking awfully inviting...
Mar. 11th, 2004 09:53 pmToday...a day of length and hecticity.
Got up about 7 a.m., despite an ingrained dislike of getting up when the time is still in the single digits. Caught the bus at about 8:15; arrived at the medical center about 9:10. Filled out the obligatory paperwork, which took about 15 minutes, then headed downstairs to the cafe in the basement, on the recommendation of the receptionist, since I hadn't had any breakfast yet.
It was actually a pretty good place—economical and good. For a hair under $2 I got two eggs over easy, a fairly large slice of ham steak, and a chunk of cherry-filled pastry...all delicious and quite filling. Then it was back up to the doctor's office on the 6th floor for the examination. The examination took about an hour, counting time spent waiting for the doctor to get in. It was a fairly thorough physical—more thorough in some aspects than I would have liked, but the less said about that, the better. Rather than draw blood samples, Dr. Scott filled out some paperwork to request the results from my hospital stay last year...and that was it.
Immediately thereafter, Aaron et famille pulled up outside the hospital in their minivan and picked me up to drive me the mile or so over to the call center. I was properly amused at the mini-DVD player hanging from the back of the driver seat showing Beauty and the Beast. Then it was to work!
And quite a day of work it was. Most of the calls were decent and easy to handle, but there were a couple that got the blood pressure up. In particular, one Asian woman, who I was nursemaiding through the 18 minute wait time to get to Repair for her lost dial tone, kept yelling at me how she had been on the phone for two whole hours so far, and she only had eight hours in the day to work. She repeated that about ten times until I could almost quote it to her verbatim. It was annoying, but by and large I've trained myself not to respond in kind, and just to let the angry words roll off like water off a duck's back. After all, I'll probably never be dealing with that person again.
Anyway, I'm tired, and thinking of knocking off as soon as I can get in bed...maybe catching up on some sleep time. I'll probably just putter around until it's the usual bedtime anyway, but I can hope...
