Saturday morning randomness

Well, I have the new computer decently set up; I'm typing away on it right now. So far, it seems to be working out pretty well. I went ahead and installed the standalone drivers for the sound card, and now surround works pretty darned well. As does iTunes, of the Windows variety, and Half-Life, and Starcraft, and so on. I haven't tried doing much with The Sims yet, aside from installing it.

Darn, but this thing is fast. I tried ripping a CD last night with iTunes, and it ripped and encoded at 15-16x play speed. I've tried playing some Serious Sam, some Half-Life, and System Shock II at maximum resolutions and they ran without hitch or glitch. Starcraft also runs flawlessly, but then that's to be expected. I'm a bit sad that I don't have anything newer and more demanding of processor time to try this thing out on.

I have two software DVD players—PowerDVD and WinDVD—and both seem to do a pretty good job of playing stuff. I've been watching some episodes of Irresponsible Captain Tylor that I've been meaning to finish so I could get the DVD back to Greencine, and watched a scene from Equilibrium so I could hear how well the speakers performed in surround.

Argh...I can't find my cellphone. I hope I didn't leave it at work.
