Random morning thoughts
Jul. 22nd, 2003 10:59 amYesterday, the payout bonus sheet was passed around, and I got to see exactly how much bonus money I'll get on my next paycheck. Before taxes, $277—the equivalent of 35 extra hours of work. Or, put another way, I will have been making approximately $15 per hour on the next paycheck. (Perhaps even a little more, as I expect I'll take a couple hours of undertime over the next couple weeks.) Ka-CHING! I need to see where my budget stands after recent expenditures. Once I have all the money associated with buying that computer out of the way, I hope I'll be able to pay down my credit card by another $200. $130, at least.
Went out and picked up a more recent copy of the Starcraft battlechest the other day. Since I bought the one I currently own, the Starcraft games were ported to the Macintosh, and now both Windows and Mac versions come on the same disc. Given that the minimum requirements on the Windows side are a Pentium 90, it's almost assured that it'll run on the 266 megahertz Powerbook I'll have by this weekend. Thus I will be able to play Starcraft away from home, and perhaps have friends or relatives over for "mini-LAN parties" with one person on the Mac and one on the Windows PC. And since the extra copy comes with its own CD key, we'll both be able to play it on BattleNet at the same time. Starcraft is about the only game I really play anymore, so this is really gonna rock.
Funny thing about the new SC Battlechest though...the Prima Strategy Guides that it comes with have shrunk compared to the full-sized ones I got in the old 'chest. Both in size (the old ones are the full trade paperback size whereas the new ones are about the size of a smallish paperback book) and in content (some of the chapters seem to be a bit abridged). Quality of the paper is down, too. Not that it really matters much, as I don't intend to keep the new ones...they're on eBay now.
Looking forward to this weekend, when I should be able to have that Wallstreet Powerbook in my hot little hands. A Mac-phile friend of mine is coming down from Kansas City to help me get it set up. I sure hope everything works out...
