Yesterday I received a welcome, if unexpected surprise at work.

One of the things that MCI employees get as part of the job is a debit card, called the "MCI Rewards" card, and whenever you do something good that falls outside the sales/quality incentive packages that add onto your salary, they put some money on your card. (They take 42% of it off your next paycheck for tax purposes, but oh well.)

So yesterday, one of my coworkers asked me if I'd checked my card's balance lately. I said, "Oh, I don't have anything on it," but they insisted, saying that some money had been put on recently, and I might have gotten some. Apparently they don't always actually tell you when they make a deposit. So I checked, and darn if I didn't have a balance of $110 on the card! (Which works out to a hair under $64 that I actually have extra, but still, free money is free money.) $10 for the 85 call score, $50 for something last month (some sort of contest win, I think) and $50 for some sort of high ranking in the agent list this month. Not bad at all.

A lot of my co-workers regard anything on the card as "mad money," a bonus outside of what they're paid normally that they can spend on something nice for themselves. Regarding this as an eminently sensible policy, I have adopted it for myself...so I've just sent off for a Kamen Rider Agito DVD set I've been eyeing for some time but never quite allowed myself to spend the money. I look forward to receiving it sometime next week.

In other news, I watched the season finale of 24 this morning. Wow. I had been expecting it to be a bit of a letdown, but it actually turned out pretty well, all things considered. I was a bit peeved at one minor aspect of it, but all things considered, it did a bang-up job of closing out the season. Now I'm looking forward to the next twenty-four episodes.

And in still other news, I'm working on banging out a storyline for my next Superguy story arc. It'll be nice to get some episodes written again. The inspiration is starting to come, and I'm following where it leads.
