Saturday report
May. 17th, 2003 11:04 amHere I am again. I realize I haven't written anything here for several days, and I guess I've been remiss in not doing that. It's so easy to get out of the habit of writing a little bit every day, and harder to get started again because you know you've forgotten stuff.
Trying to recall the important events in my life of the past few days: a few days ago, Wes (the landlord) was around, drilling out the lock of the apartment next door. The folks who had lived in it left a lot of stuff lying around, most of it junk—but there was a fairly nice easy chair left in the apartment, and Wes helped me move it into my apartment. Maybe it's a little worn, and maybe the seat is sunk a little in the middle, but it's a good two orders of magnitude more comfortable than any other furniture I have ever possessed. It's all good.
Work has been going decently; I've been able to get my handling time down because a lot of the calls I get are fundamentally the same problem, and one that I can explain in about two minutes. A lot of customers are being moved over from the old Z-tel, or "Zorro," computer platform to the new one, so that we'll have less trouble maintaining their accounts. During that move, dialing 00 to get voicemail stops working for a few days, and customers call in asking why their email doesn't work. It's a bit monotonous, but it's nice that so many of the calls I get can be handled so rapidly. I've been having plenty of time to read between calls, which is very nice (particularly late in the evening when things aren't busy). On my last job, I got yelled at if I got caught reading...on this one, I can read as much as I want.
The other day, I got praised by my supervisor for several perfect calls on which he monitored me. That felt pretty darned good.
Also, I was able to watch The Matrix Reloaded on Wednesday night at a special preview showing (which is good, or I wouldn't have been able to see it at all until today). What a mind-blowing movie! It's not as "groundbreaking" as the first movie, whatever that means, so it settles for taking the action sequences to a completely new level. Some of the scenes hark back to the old Jackie Chan/Jet Li movies that the Wachowski brothers know and love, and others are like nothing you've ever seen before.
Neighbor kids are playing outside in the big driveway/parking lot expanse. Some of them have been playing with my garden hose, which would explain why I've been finding it turned on every so often. Their mother gave them a good talking-to for that.
Anyway, I think I'm gonna see about scaring up some breakfast now, maybe write more later.
