Morning Report

Last night, as I was watching the prior Saturday's episode of the Power Rangers, there was a knock at my door. At first I thought it was someone complaining that my speakers were too loud, but it actually turned out to be the young mother who's just moved in next door to me. There was some loud storming going on—a storm system that had delivered tornados to K.C. was sweeping down through Springfield. Apart from seeing some bright lightning flashes through my blind, I really hadn't noticed...but when I turned the TV off I could hear the heavy rain and the loud thunder.

The young lady in question was pretty spooked by it all. She asked me things like if I had ever seen a tornado. I advised her that I hadn't in my four years of living here, and that if there was one, the bathroom of the house was probably the safest place to be for her and her baby. At first I thought she might be new to Missouri, but it turned out that she was only just away from her parents for the first time, and especially with the baby was scared to be alone during a storm of this nature. I showed her the weather radar, advised her that the worst of it should be over in half an hour or so, and reiterated that the bathroom was a safe place.

As it turned out, the worst of it was indeed over in half an hour, and the night was calm soon after that. It even stopped raining, though I could still see bright lightning flashes over in the eastern part of town. Not long after that, I went to bed.

This morning I've been doing some labelling of the various cords and cables that go into the back of my computer, my VCR, and my TV, as I'm shortly about to need to disassemble them all and port them over to the new apartment to get the TV & Internet set up. I'm a little worried actually about carrying this huge monster of a monitor on my desk...I needed help just to get it into the apartment and up onto the desk in the first place.

Also on the agenda for today: moving over stuff from my fridge & freezer, doing the laundry, and some kitchen unpacking procedures. I would have gotten a start on that yesterday, but my parents advised me to get some insect repelling shelf paper and put it down, and it would be best to do that before I pile cabinets full of stuff...but after calling around, I haven't been able to locate anyone in town who sells that sort of thing. Very bothersome. I guess I'll just have to go ahead without it.

I've also been looking into the Litter Maid self-cleaning kitty-litter trays that a friend recommended I get. I was a little startled to see how much they go for, new. Fortunately, there are people selling them used on eBay for less. I figure that, since I have a used cat, a used litterbox should suit her just fine.
