Not much time to journalize, as I've used up most of my lunchbreak time on computer-noodling, but I'll try to hit the high points.

Those three black girls I mentioned in an earlier entry as the loud and rowdy ones of the class? They're getting well nigh intolerable now. Enough so that the normally unflappable trainer actually lost his composure a couple of times. Talking loudly among themselves, yelling indignantly at the instructor—and then yelling back when he raises his voice to them, sullenly mumbling when called upon to read...it's like freshman year in college all over again. They're making it hard for the other members of the class to concentrate. I hope that if they're going to wash out, they hurry up and do it soon.

Came upon a very interesting interview from a liberal writer in support of the war (though not of Bush's handling of it). Good reading, though you'll have to click through Salon Premium's flash ad to read it.

I'm still stunned at Spirited Away's out-of-nowhere Oscar win. It's kind of funny...there was this great deal of confusion going in between that movie and Dreamworks's Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, which was also nommed for Best Animated Feature. Well, it wasn't funny until last night, as Miyazaki fans were worried that people would get confused by the similar names and vote for the wrong one. But the funny thing is, apparently the people filming the Oscar were confused, too—because right after Spirited Away was announced, the camera cut to a rather annoyed-looking Jeffrey Katzenberg of Dreamworks. Oops.

Well, back to the grind.
