Feb. 19th, 2003 12:32 pmWell. My parents just cancelled my auto insurance.
I can't really blame them...I feel awfully guilty about not having a job yet and asking them to help support me. I know they're not made out of money, and I cringe every time I have to ask them to pay my rent and utilities for me.
The thing is, I'm trying, really trying to find work, and this is only going to make things harder. They say I got by without a car for several years, and this is true...but that was when the only place I ever had to go was Kmart, where I worked. It was easy enough to catch buses to and from there when I needed to. But now, I have to go other places, sometimes multiple places in a single day. For instance, the only printer I can use to print off my resumes is halfway across town, at the job center. And there's no longer a laundromat anywhere near me; it closed and its building is now occupied by a beer and smokes shop. How am I supposed to get three basketloads of laundry to a laundromat several blocks away?
The only thing I can do is just drive at those times when I really need to and just hope I don't get stopped or in an accident.
Oh well. Maybe I'll find work within the next few days and can take care of it myself.
Edit: OK, they extended it to March 1. That at least gives me some time to think about what to do about this.
Went out and applied again at MCI, and put in an app at a temp place today. The temp place doesn't do much clerical, but I may be in luck...they have an office position open. Got a couple of places to call back and check on tomorrow, and some more temp places to hit tomorrow.
