Reporting from Cloud Nine . . .
Oct. 23rd, 2001 05:08 pmAs an aspiring freelance writer, I've been responding to various freelancer-wanted requests. One company asked me to write a 1,000 word story for them, as a writing sample. I did so--just dashed it off in half an hour or so...worried a little about how good it was, but I thought it was as decent as anything I've ever written.
The response from the company just came back. Their pay rate is lower than I would like, but at least it's a chance to get my name into print so I can join the ranks of the "experienced" free-lance writers that some gaming companies prefer. But the kicker, the thing that's got me so happy, is what the fellow said in the first line of his email:
I may or may not end up writing for the project, but either way, "a great deal of experience in writing" is definitely a good thing to hear.
Although a friend online points out to me now that the sentence could be taken in more than one way. Hmmmm . . . well, I think I'll continue to take it positively until someone proves otherwise. :)

"I can see by your writing that you have a great deal of experience in writing."Wow. All that for just a one-thousand word vignette I just sat down and wrote in one sitting. You know, I'm like a lot of other writers--perpetually self-doubting about the quality of my work. Always saying, "Is this good enough? Is this worth showing to other people?" and requesting feedback from others (to the point of annoying them half to death sometimes :) on what worked, what didn't, what I should change, whether they liked it.I may or may not end up writing for the project, but either way, "a great deal of experience in writing" is definitely a good thing to hear.
