So, here I am. Day before I begin my new job at my old workplace. I've gone through all the online new hire orientation stuff, and furnished what proofs of prior employment are required, and so far I haven't gotten any more emails warning me I need to do something right away or Bad Things Will Happen, so it looks like I'm all set. Just need to take my driver's license and birth certificate or social security card in with me. And as it happens, I have both; my replacement SocSec card arrived just a few days ago.

I'm a little depressed that I haven't gotten more done in this couple of weeks I've been out of work. I did get some housecleaning in (though not nearly as much as I could/should have done), and I did the dishes and the laundry (though I do still need to finish folding all my shirts and pants). On the whole, though, I spent much of it playing Starcraft II co-op. (Went from zero on all characters to level 15 on Raynor, Kerrigan, and Artanis, and level 57 Mastery so far. If any of my friends play, I'll be happy to co-op with you, bearing in mind that I'm still kind of lousy at the game.)

I suppose it's kind of a vicious cycle: I get depressed because I can't seem to get much done, and then I play more video games because I'm depressed. I suppose I should be thankful I was able to get as much done as I did, and that I'm not going to be a total mess when it comes to returning to work tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting back to work again as soon as possible. Or back to training, anyway. Apparently I'm going to be in for several weeks of it, which makes me wonder exactly what responsibilities my job will have beyond just taking people's contact information before I pass them on to a medical person to handle the medical stuff. But I guess that's what all the training will cover. At least some of the systems I'll be using will be ones I worked with during the temp job, so some parts of the training will be a refresher course.

My new job will pay a bit more than the old one, and presumably my health insurance will have a lower monthly fee than the Obamacare plan I'm currently on, so that'll help, but I've still got the matter of a missed half month of pay. Just a little worried about how all this is going to shake out financially.

I've seen some Facebook friends in similar situations launch GoFundMe begging campaigns, but I'm certainly not one to go that far. That being said, I do have a tip jar for my TeleRead writing, and if anyone should feel like kicking in a few bucks there, I will certainly be grateful for the help.

Anyway, that's all from here. Starting tomorrow, "They call me the working man / I guess that's what I am."
